Tracey O’Brien: An Opportunity to Educate Ourselves on Devastating Group of Cancers

Tracey O’Brien, Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of Cancer Institute NSW, shared Cancer Institute NSW’s post on LinkedIn:

“There are more than 150 types of blood cancer. Collectively, they make up the fourth biggest group of cancers diagnosed in NSW, with around 5,500 people told they have the disease every year.

While research has helped shape better futures, offering new treatments, options and hope, every day far too many people are reeling from the immediate and long-term impact of a blood cancer diagnosis.

Blood Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to educate ourselves on this devastating group of cancers and acknowledge those working to make a difference. It’s a time to remember those who are living with the disease or who are feeling its impact on their health, family or community.

For me, as a blood cancer specialist, it’s also a time to remember those whose lives were taken far too soon and whose journey and courage are driving so many of us working in cancer control.

Learn more about blood cancers like Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma by visiting the Cancer Institute NSW website.”
