Patrick Hwu, President and CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center, shared an article by Shijun Ma, et al. on LinkedIn:
“T cells in the tumor microenvironment can become exhausted, limiting their ability to kill cancer cells.
How can we prevent T cell exhaustion?
In a recent study, Ma et al found that the protein P4HA1 accumulated in activated CD8 T cells, interfering with mitochondrial function and promoting T cell exhaustion. Targeting P4HA1 improved T cell expansion, decreased exhaustion and improved antitumor responses in preclinical models.
This represents a promising approach to one day enhance T cell therapy in patients.
Here’s a link to the full study.”
Targeting P4HA1 promotes CD8+ T cell progenitor expansion toward immune memory and systemic anti-tumor immunity.
