“Higher Radiation in Pediatric Ependymomas: More Harm Than Good?
Objective
- Assess optimal radiation dose (≤54 Gy vs. >54 Gy) for pediatric intracranial ependymomas
- Evaluate Local Control (LC), Event-Free Survival (EFS), Overall Survival (OS), and toxicity
Methods
- Meta-analysis of 7 studies (1321 patients)
- Outcomes: LC, EFS, OS, and late toxicities (necrosis, vasculopathy, cognitive lower)
Results
- No survival benefit for >54 Gy.
- Higher doses = more cognitive toxicity
Conclusion
- ≤54 Gy is effective and may reduce toxicity.
- Future research needed on molecular subtypes and STR.”
