Gerard Mawhinney, DPhil Student at Clinical Neurosciences, Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Oxford, shared on X:
“We’re proud to share the outstanding outcomes of the Oxford Spinal Sarcoma Service, a centralised multidisciplinary unit led by Jeremy Reynolds.
Key findings from our 14-year review (2008–2022):
2% local recurrence rate in mobile spine tumours with Enneking Appropriate (EA) resections — among the lowest reported globally
EA margins achieved in 90% of attempted cases
Centralised care enabled excellent oncological outcomes, with a local recurrence-free survival of 5.2 years and an overall survival of 5.63 years post-surgery
Our results highlight the value of centralised, specialised, and collaborative care in managing primary spinal tumours.”
