Wafaa M Rashed, Chair and Founder of PAPERI (Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today, 5 September 2025, marks a milestone for PAPERI!
We successfully concluded the first-ever virtual Ensemble Train-the-Trainer workshop for the PAPERI community.
This achievement would not have been possible without the amazing collaboration and support from the Ensembl Outreach team — special thanks to Dr. Jorge Da Rocha Batista da Rocha and Louisse Paola Mirabueno for their excellent organization and guidance.
I would also like to sincerely thank our dedicated Teaching Assistants:
Mr. Mutaz M. Abdallah Mohamed (Sudan)
Dr. Djouher GAAD (Algeria) for their commitment, time, and continuous support throughout the course.
And finally — to our young African scientists who are now ready to step forward as trainers: you have done an outstanding job. I am so proud of your achievements and can’t wait to see how you share this knowledge with your institutions and communities.
This is just the beginning — together, we are building sustainable genomics training capacity across Africa.
‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.’
