“Thought-provoking findings from this Dutch nationwide retrospective cohort study (2010–2019).
While anastomotic leak rates were comparable between emergency and elective right-sided colon cancer resections, emergency surgery was associated with significantly higher 90-day complication (41.7% vs 33.0%) and mortality rates (9.4% vs 4.2%). Bridge-to-surgery strategies might help mitigate these risks and deserve further exploration.”
