This fellowship supports integrated research and clinical training for dual-degree students (MD/PhD, DO/PhD, DDS/PhD, AuD/PhD, DVM/PhD, PharmD/PhD) at institutions without NIH-funded institutional dual-degree programs. It enhances the development of future physician-scientists and clinician-scientists by providing rigorous research experience, mentorship, and training in health-related fields.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident.

  • Enrolled in a formal dual-degree program (e.g., MD/PhD, DO/PhD, DDS/PhD, etc.).

  • Must identify dissertation research project and sponsor(s).

  • Application typically within 48 months of matriculation and no later than 24 months into dissertation research.

  • At least 50% of award period must be devoted to PhD research training.

  • Applicant organization must not have NIH-funded institutional dual-degree programs.

  • Foreign organizations are not eligible; foreign components allowed with justification.

Funding Details:

  • Provides stipends, tuition/fees, and institutional allowance at NIH NRSA levels.

  • No separate indirect costs (covered under institutional allowance).

  • Support up to 5 years for predoctoral training (up to 6 years for dual-degree).

Deadline:

  • December 08, 2025.

  • April 08, 2026.
