The ERC Synergy Grant is designed for groups of two to four Principal Investigators (PIs) who aim to jointly tackle an ambitious research problem that cannot be addressed by a single PI alone. These grants support highly integrated, multidisciplinary collaborations across any scientific domain and promote breakthrough discoveries that arise from true research synergy.
Eligibility Criteria:

Open to teams of 2–4 researchers of any nationality

No specific academic training requirements

Each PI must have a competitive track record relevant to their career stage

Research must be conducted at one or more host institutions in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe-associated country

One PI may be hosted outside the EU or associated countries

Host institutions must commit to support PIs for the full duration of the project

Host support letters must be included at submission
-
Projects must clearly demonstrate that the research challenge requires joint effort and cannot be achieved by a single PI
Funding Details:

Up to 10 million EUR for a maximum of 6 years

Additional 4 million EUR available for:

Relocation from a third country

Major equipment or large-scale field work

100% of direct costs covered, plus 25% contribution toward indirect costs
