Niranjala Siriwardena, Cancer Survivor and Former Manager of PwC Australia, shared on LinkedIn:
“POLICY was ranked the N1 priority in every economic group, yet Australia still has NO workplace cancer survivorship policy.
In the MASCC Global White Paper on Work After Cancer:
- 53% of upper-middle income countries (UMIC)
- 46% of lower-middle and low-income countries (LMIC/LIC)
- 24% of high-income countries (like Australia)
… all identified policy development as the most URGENT intervention needed to support cancer survivors returning to work.
Not just training. Not more toolkits.
Policy. Structure. Protection. Human dignity.
Meanwhile, Australia — a wealthy, resourced, high-income country is still sitting on its hands.
What are we waiting for?
For lower-income countries to lead?
For survivors to keep being silenced or sacrificed?
This isn’t about resources.
It’s about will.
This is a global wake-up call.
And a national leadership test.
It’s time.
Australia must act.
