Nina Niu Sanford, Associate Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center , shared on X about a recent paper by Max D. Tanaka et al. published in International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics:
“Comparison of toxicity with 3D v IMRT in RAPIDO: IMRT worse.
Table summarizes studies of 3D v IMRT in rectal cancer – with RAPIDO, data mixed.
Caveat that RAPIDO didn’t require OAR delineation/ specify constraints, but good reminder that advanced tech doesn’t guarantee better outcomes.”
Title: Acute and late radiation-related toxicity after treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer with IMRT compared to 3D-CRT in the RAPIDO trial
