“Exercise as Medicine – Even in Cancer Care
A groundbreaking study published in the New England Journal of Medicine confirms what we, as oncologists, have long suspected: exercise significantly improves outcomes for cancer patients. In a randomized controlled trial, patients who engaged in a structured exercise program not only lived longer without recurrence, but also had a reduced risk of death during the trial period compared to the control group.
This is more than just a wellness tip — it’s a call to action for clinicians and healthcare systems to integrate exercise as a formal part of cancer treatment plans. As both an oncologist and a strong advocate for lifestyle medicine, I believe this reinforces the urgent need to look beyond chemotherapy and surgery — toward holistic, evidence-based interventions that truly empower our patients.
Let’s reimagine cancer care: not only fighting disease but actively rebuilding life.”
