“Many cancer survivors want to go back to work – but the road back is rarely a simple one
Work brings income, social connection and, for many, a sense of identity. For people living with or having survived cancer, returning (or staying) in the workplace is often a vital part of recovery.
Yet a recent study from the European Commission highlights how hard that can be: across the EU, there is a lack of legislative frameworks for job retention and re-integration for cancer patients and survivors. Alarmingly, other studies show that cancer survivors are 1.4 times more likely to face unemployment.
This International Workers Day (1 May), we’re shining a light on that gap and calling for an EU-wide framework that truly protects cancer patients and survivors.
