“At last week’s European Parliament event on ‘Health Equity for Marginalised Voices: EU’s Path Forward’, ECO’s Norbert Couespel said:
‘Health equity must be more than a discussion; it must be a commitment. We cannot tackle cancer inequalities without amplifying the voices of those most affected and ensuring their place at the decision-making table.’
Key points of discussion included championing efforts to:
- Treat lack of access to cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care as a health equity problem
- Uphold the legitimate right to health for everyone living in Europe
- Improve data collection systems to monitor social inequalities in health systems
- Support training programmes for healthcare professionals and social workers
- Recognise the social determinants of health and integrate them into policy plans
Let’s all push for evidence-based policies that truly reflect the diversity of Europe’s healthcare challenges!
