Hongcheng Zhu, Radiation Oncologist at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, China, shared a post by The Lancet on X, adding the following:
“Super great team work of such an important topic led by May Wahab and Andrew. Thanks for bringing us together, brainstorming for closing the gap of radiotherapy & theranostics accessibility globally.”
Quoting The Lancet:
“Radiotherapy is a crucial component of cancer care, yet global access to services, as well as the promising field of theranostics, remains a major problem.
A new The Lancet Oncology Commission assesses the current state of access to radiotherapy and theranostics at a global level.
It is estimated that 50–70% of all patients with cancer worldwide need radiotherapy, with more than 50% of this population residing in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Authors propose key actions and investments to increase access to imaging, diagnostic, and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, and radiotherapy.”
